Australian independent booksellers, members of Leading Edge Books, are thrilled to announce their Longlist for the Indie Book Awards 2020!

Established in 2008, what makes the Indie Book Awards unique is that it’s the Australian independent booksellers themselves who nominate their best titles for the year; select the Longlist; judge the Shortlist and vote for the Category and Book of the Year winners - the entire process is based on the selection and involvement of independent booksellers, members of the Leading Edge Books group, making it one of the most democratic awards in the Australian literary calendar.

Australian Independent Booksellers are thrilled to announce Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton (HarperCollins Australia) as their favourite Australian book from last year and the winner of The Indie Book Awards 2019 Book of the Year. The bookseller judges’ commented that: “Dalton’s characters and writing style are what make this book the standout. The language and phrasing used truly evoke a sense of place and time, and the numerous anecdotes and smaller details connect you to a cast of unique characters that are difficult to forget.”.

Established in 2008, the Indie Book Awards recognise and celebrate this country’s incredible talent and the role independent booksellers play in supporting and nurturing Australian writing.

Nominations are now underway for the 2019 Indie Book Awards. Australian Independent Booksellers, members of Leading Edge Books, are currently submitting their nominations for their favourite Australian books for 2018.

Established in 2008, the Indie Book Awards  recognise and celebrate the indie booksellers as the number one supporters of Australia authors. Their incredible passion and knowledge make them uniquely placed to judge and recommend the best Aussie books. This year's winners will join an illustrious list of previous winners including Tim Winton, Richard Flanagan, Charlotte Wood and Jane Harper to name just a few.

Australian titles published in between January and December of 2018 are eligible for nominations. For full eligibility guidelines click here.

Australian Independent Booksellers, members of Leading Edge Books, are currently submitting their nominations for their favourite Australian books for 2017.

2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the Indie Book Awards. This year's winners will join an illustrious list of previous winners including Tim Winton, Richard Flanagan, Charlotte Wood and Jane Harper to name just a few.

Australian titles published in between January and December of 2017 are eligible for nominations. For full eligibility guidelines click here.

A longlist of 60 titles will be announced on 6th December. The shortlist will follow on 15th January 2018.

The winners will be announced on Monday 26th March 2018 at the Leading Edge Books Annual Conference Awards Dinner to be held in Hobart Tasmania.

Australian Independent Booksellers are thrilled to announce The Dry by Jane Harper as their favourite Australian book from last year and the winner of The Indie Book Awards 2017 Book of the Year.


The individual category winners in Fiction, Non-fiction, Debut Fiction, Children’s and Young Adult were also announced. From these five category winners, the independent booksellers selected the best of the best – The 2017 Indie Book of the Year.
